Worst experience ever!
You can only buy tickets online and for specific time slots - you CANNOT buy tickets once you get there as there is no ticket office and there is no wifi so you can't buy tickets online either. The website to buy tickets online is awful and super complicated (and I am Italian!!! so imagine other tourists that don't speak the language...). I met other tourists that were travelling with me on the same bus to the Vesuvio and were not able to buy tickets online and once they got there, they could not get in and had to leave. So basically, they travelled for hours just to visit the Vesuvio and got denied entrance because they did not buy a ticket online because the website did not allow them and the staff do not provide tickets at the entrance. This is just outrageous! We arrived at the vesuvio pretty early but because of the time slot (no availability for previous ones) we had to wait for hours before getting in and as you can imagine, there's not much to do there beside visiting the crater - just a waste of time really.
Plus, you are forced to buy the tickets online and of course the website charges you for a pre-booking fee on top of the entrance fee.
Also, the ticket says it's a guided tour ticket but when you get inside, they guides just tell you where to go and to walk around on your own.
The whole experience was just unacceptable.

IL GRAN CONO access cannot be reached here. The gentleman Was really kind but did not understand english. By foot, the promenade is dangerous. As odd as it may sound do not try to hike on the Vesuvio without a car
Good info.
Wow!
We bought tickets for the excursion, no one warned us that it had been canceled due to a "wind warning", so we arrived there completely ignored (clearly at low altitudes we absolutely could not imagine that there was a wind warning), losing our ticket and train money to get there, as well as wasting time. I have requested a refund several times: by email, by certified email, by telephone, and I have had no response.
Zero professionalism, do not give money to these scammers.
Obviously the Vesuvius Park is a wonderful place, my review refers only to the body that """protects""" it.

I arrive at the car park, full of illegal shuttles without fees. But above all, half of the paths of the Gran Cono are closed even though the website says it will be reopened from 8 December (obviously the price is the same). If you look at the map, it stops at Capannuccia. The "guided" visit consists of ten minutes of explanation from a guide who doesn't even take two steps, visit times do not exist (see photo), cigarette butts that no one picks up and the "guide" ignores... as usual , they march there because they have a unique beauty in their hands, but really embarrassing management, full of tourists and sad to be Italian.
